DAKOTA SKIES EXHIBITION BY REBECCA MULVANEY...
Rebecca Mulvaney will be exhibiting “Dakota Skies” in the main gallery of the Granary Rural Cultural Center from June 15 through July 6, 2008. The pastels and oil paintings feature studies of clouds and storms over our region.
“I have taken a break from my usual landscapes and spent the last three years depicting the color and form of clouds. This was my chance to explore new compositions and expand my palette into oranges, purples, pinks, and the many shades of blue that appear in the overarching sky. Because of our clear air, we can witness the variety of cloud cover throughout the day, including spectacular storms and rainbow colored sunsets. You only need to step outside your door to witness the wonder and power of nature,” says Mulvaney in her artist’s statement.
The clouds in “Tumbleweeds” are from a photo taken as a storm passed over Aberdeen, on June 23, 2006. The setting sun projected a spectrum of colors onto the clouds of the receding storm. Also, in the exhibit are six works from the Lake Kampeska storm series, which debuted at the Dacotah Prairie Museum in the fall of 2005.
“Dakota Skies” will open as part of the dedication and unveiling of “RFD”, bronze sculpture by Sherri Treeby and Lee Leuning for the Walk with Dakota sculpture garden at the Granary, 40161 128th Street, Groton, SD, at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, June 15. The Granary will be open 10 a.m – 5:30 p.m. on that day. Normal Granary hours are 1-5 p.m., Tuesday – Sunday. Call 605-397-2608 or visit www.granaryfinearts.org for additional information about the Granary and its programs.
Information on artworks by Mulvaney can be found on her website at www.rebeccamulvaney.info. _________________________ CALL TO ARTISTS: DELMONT

Admission is free (Fees may be charged for some special exhibits). ________________________________ ARTFALLS SUMMER ART FESTIVAL CANCELED…
Artfalls, an annual summer art festival and sale at Falls Park, has been canceled. The economy - gas for artists to travel to show their work - was part of the reason the event was called off this year, Suzanne Willadsen, Artfalls board president, wrote in a press release.
It would have been the 10th anniversary of Artfalls, a fine arts festival with 70-plus vendors at Falls Park.
"It is with much regret that we have made the difficult decision to cancel Artfalls 2008," wrote Willadsen, one of the festival's founders. "As an all-volunteer board that has presented this wonderful fine arts festival tradition beginning in August 1999, we are deeply saddened by this decision."
The Sioux Empire Arts Council offered help in putting on this year's festival, said Deb Klebanoff, the council's executive director.
"It is not a SEAC event, even though some people probably thought so, since it is held on the grounds next to our headquarters, the Horse Barn Art Center," Klebanoff said Tuesday.
"We offered immediate assistance, and said 'let's keep it going and not let it die,' but that didn't work," she said. "We don't know who was invited or accepted, and don't have access to the lists of participating artists."
