Origionally from South Dakota, I am a lifelong photographer having assembled my first darkroom in 1955 when photography became my serious interest. I attended the photography program offered at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, (founded partly through the efforts of Ansel Adams, later renamed the San Francisco Art Institute) and then continued my studies at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara during the early 1960's. In 2003 I retired after working as a television engineer and professionally in a wide area of photographic disciplines. Now, I put my energy toward being a photographic artist on my own projects. With skills I acquired using a wide variety of camera formats and specialized equipment, some of my own design, I create unique images of things that might go unnoticed in our daily life.
To me, photography is the art of seeing, noticing something and making it stand out when visualized in a photograph. My photographic equipment is to me as the brush and paint are to a painter. It allows me to capture a moment of discovery and make it visible to others in a way that reflects what I saw and felt. I don't choose any particular thing or subject area to work with. I just enjoy my surroundings. Finding something to photograph is a bonus to that experience.
