Black Hills native Shirley Jane (Hobbs) loves our shared landscape. Raised on the outskirts of Spearfish, she now lives on the high plains surrounded by the rocks and forest of the Southern Black Hills.

Contemplating the human relationship with nature, she wants to absorb and express the beauty around her. She has found that possibility in silk painting.

Each scarf is 100% silk, original hand dyed. They are washable in cool water. Towel dry and iron on silk or cotton setting. For a softer texture and to remove static, they may be rinsed in a hair conditioner solution that does not contain wax or oils.

Scarves shown in the picture may not be the exact scarf you would receive. I paint seven themes on Habatai silk or chifon: sage, meadow rose, blue flax, yucca, purple cone flower, pasque flower, and and common sunflower. Pictures show either chiffon or Habatai silk.

Meadow roses grow near my home and blossom all summer long reminding me of the fragile nature of beauty.
